TODAY IN THE CLOSET:

FASHION AGEISM ~ FRIEND OR FOE?

Last week I had just put on a new pair of boyfriend jeans, the kind with the shreds that look random but whose location has strategically been calculated by some very chic jeans maker. Then I saw my Mom and she said “that’s a very appropriate look for someone your age”.  In case you’re not familiar with it, that’s Jewish mother sarcasm, I’m immune. Then she said I should get rid of them anyway because they were all ripped. Haha I love these jeans!
I never considered that I’m too old to wear them because I feel good in them.  In addition, as you know if you follow this blog, I have the live in fashion police that would never let me out of the house if I looked foolish. Seriously, bells and sirens go off at the front door!

The other day a women, (younger than me), was in love with the dress I was wearing. She kept on about it until I told her it was from Forever21 and then she went into a long dissertation about how she could never step foot in that store because It’s for teenagers.

I share a lot of clothes and accessories with my 21 year old daughter. We don’t wear them the same way and I’m certainly not advocating wearing a mini skirt when your 90, but if you have a preconceived notion of what’s ‘appropriate for your age' I’m suggesting you focus on your style and what you feel confident in and not what other people think you should or should not wear.

We'd never actually be seen together in the same pants of course but it did make a fun picture.

Hmmm could be either of us.

Her shoes found their way to my feet when I was styling the outfit below to wear to a friends 1930's themed wedding.

And this same red dress moonlights as a skirt under the Donavon Bentley City Tee Faux leather top in a Fashionloft8 outfit post here.

The hat gets around so we have two of them.

Hey I found my black flats!

And here's that little Nine West Cross Body Bag from my picture above.

Polka dot pants, yup.

On me.

 On her.

On both of us.

Here's the Kate Spade bag from above (a fab find) paired with her Donavon Bentley jumpsuit, coming soon. (I want one)
A favorite that we share is this DVF trench coat (a fab find) which looks good with just about anything and on any age. I think I will still wear it when I'm 100!

"The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years."
— Audrey Hepburn

P.S. ~  Even when her jeans are ripped J

 Insta~bits~
As you can see, my addiction to all things striped and polka dot continues as does my love of anything Kate Spade. / Having a memory moment of breakfast at Le Boulange in San Francisco. / Definitely blowing up this photograph the Fashion Police took on our drive up the coast.

On Saturday mornings my husband goes around our garden cutting flowers and filling up vases all over the house, yes he's a keeper :)  / A gorgeous Le Pain Quotidien opened up in our neighborhood with a beautiful outdoor seating area complete with big European fountain in the middle, love! /  Finally hiked Runon Canyon in the Hollywood Hills! / And this lower corner picture is from the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL! It's our acceptance letter for the film Sticks & Stones that I co-produced with my producing partner Kate who also directed and co-wrote it. Alas, I couldn't go so Kate went off to Cannes without me.  I'm baby sitting Hector, her fish. Hmmmm.
Me and my girl at an MTV Movie Awards after party and there she is getting interviewed on the Red Carpet. / Me and Handsome at Casino Angeleno at the Peterson Automotive Museum Saturday night. This was a fundraiser for The Jr. League of Los Angeles, a charity I just produced a PSA for called Speak Up When You're Down, for Post Partum Depression, I will share it here as soon as it's released. / And last but not least, a beautiful lunch in Pasadena with my bff from Jr. High/High School who was in Cali for a wedding. Thank you Face Book! The last time we saw each other was about 17 years ago. No, that's not when we graduated and don't try and do the math, I'll deny it ;)

Happy May!

TODAY IN THE CLOSET:

Fab Finds Friday ~ For me it's officially spring when I start re-arranging the back yard. New pillows, found treasures and cozy corners make this my very happy place.

Pillows are a great way to decorate and change a look from drabulous to fabulous on any budget. There's lots of places to pick up pillows and not break the bank. I found this the big blue and white one at Ross For Less for $14. TJMaxx, Marshalls and Home Goods are all great sources. I also like to splurge on the Sunbrella fabric pillows, they don't fade, a bit more expensive but last longer, like the smaller one that was $22 at Pier I. World Market also has a good selection of theses.

This gorgeous old french window was a dumpster dive find.  I love how it looks with the lavender and grape vine (still waiting for grapes.) It's my french corner. I always say 'one woman's trash is another womans's garden art'.

Love this Buddha, a bargain treasure found in my travels.

Can't leave out Daisy my lazy garden helper.

I just came across some gorgeous outdoor furniture that was used to stage a house, buying it for less that half price!  Can't wait to set it up. I'll take before and afters pictures. It looks similar to this.

If you haven't checked out the attached at the hip blog take a look, there's some great photos up!

Happy Spring!
